How To Install WordPress

Installing WordPress is a fairly easy task that anyone can do, even if you have no experience with creating a website prior to today. To start off with, you need to have a few things in place or ready to go before installing WordPress. First, you need to have done your research and purchased the domain name that you want to use for your site. Secondly, you need to have an account set up with a hosting company to host your domain. After that, your name servers must be set up correctly.

Once you have completed all the necessary steps for setting up your site, the next thing to do is to install WordPress. In your control panel of the hosting company that your site is hosted with, if you scroll down you will come across a small icon that says something similar “Fantastico De Luxe” (this is the name of the icon if you are hosting your site with the Hostgator company.. it will also look like a blue smiley face).

When “Fantastico De Luxe” is opened, there will be a menu on the left hand side listing a few options. Look for the “Wordpress” link under the “Blogs” section and click on it. Over to the right side of your screen, you will notice a couple links to choose from. You now want to click the link that says “New Installation”. When that is opened up, you need to enter a few bits of basic information here in the form.

  1. In the first field, choose the correct domain name that you previously purchased for this installation. There is no need to write anything in the next field that says “Install In Directory”. When you skip this, it will be filled in automatically.
  2. Next, in the “Admin Access Data” section, think about what you want to use for this information. The username and password that you choose for this section will be the same exact username and password that you will use to sign into the admin side of your website every time you need to work on or post anything.
  3. Under “Base Configuration” section, you can type really anything into the admin nickname field. This doesn’t matter a whole lot. The next field is asking for your email address. For this, I recommend going back to the control panel of your hosting account and creating an email used for your own site. Place that same email into this field. Whatever you place in the “Site Name” will always end up showing in the header of your site’s pages. If you don’t like what you write now, you can always change it later after you have completely installed WordPress. The same thing goes for the “Description” field. You can change that later as well.

One last thing to do is to click on the button “INSTALL WORDPRESS”, and your finished! Congratulations, you can now browse through the WordPress settings and figure out how to navigate it. Take some time to do this and get familiar with it before creating your site.
